Introducing the AIB Build a Bank Challenge

Have you heard about the AIB Build a Bank Challenge?

We’re introducing Transition and 5th Year Students to the marvellous world of business and banking and giving them to opportunity to run their own School Bank and as a result, win fantastic prizes!

How does Build a Bank work?

We invite students to establish and run their own bank in teams of six. The team is involved in every aspect of the branding, management and business planning of their bank and must also find creative ways to market their bank within the school to encourage new customers to join. We also provide a dedicated AIB Student Officer to provide the students with full support at all times.

The history of Build a Bank

The AIB Build a Bank Challenge directly corresponds with the Business Studies Curriculum and offers students an amazing opportunity to get practical, hands-on experience in managing a business.

Having launched in 2002, the AIB Build a Bank Challenge 2014/2015 is the 13th annual instalment of the competition. Throughout its history the competition has seen thousands of participants take part and in 2014, over 180 schools have registered.

Regional finals

Every school is invited to a Regional Final to exhibit their School Bank projects to a panel of judges and demonstrate what makes theirs the best and all the schools that partake are awarded a Certificate of either Gold, Silver or Bronze.

National finals

The top teams from the AIB Build a Bank Regional Finals then go on to compete in the AIB Build a Bank National Finals on the 16th April in the RDS for the grand prize of €5,000. Specially commissioned trophies will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams, in addition to ‘Best Digital Bank’ Award.

Colm Cooper, AIB’s Youth Ambassador

Colm Cooper, AKA ‘The Gooch’, is AIB’s Youth Ambassador and he visits the schools that have registered throughout the school year. Colm helps the school team with the launch of their bank and provides helpful advice on how to prepare for both the Regional and National Finals.

With the Regional Finals for this year’s competition just wrapping up, watch this space for an upcoming series showcasing each of the 24 National Finalists and 6 Best Digital Bank Contenders from this year.
